Credit Rating

The flat where my friend has just moved to has a really bad rap for bad credit rating.
His credit rating is good and he does not want this to affect it.
Is there anything he can do to stop this happening.

Thanks

Credit rating is on people, not addresses.

You don't say whether he is moving in to share or what the arrangements are, but if he is with strangers he should on no account take on a joint bank account with a stranger, otherwise he takes on the credit rating of the stranger.

As others have said, the credit rating of previous occupants wont affect your friends credit rating in any way. However, your friend may have the problem of having ballifs come round looking for the previous occupants and it would be helpful if your friend had documents to hand to prove his/her identity in these circumstances. Also make sure that your friend returns any mail recieved at the property for anyone else marked "not at this address".
  • It's definately about you, and not the previous property history. Make sure your friend updates all his accounts to his new proprty details, so that his credit record is up to date too, as old address details can move your credit rating down
