Whiteboard marker help please

I'm sorry that my first post is asking for help but I am desperate. When I was fighting my way through my son's tip today I found his brand new England football top shoved under his bed.
I had let him wear it to school on the last day of term and has managed to get whiteboard marker all over it. I tried washing it with some vanish and it hasn't done a thing.
You all seem so helpful and knowlegeable here that I thought you may have some ideas before I sell him into slavery.

White-board marker. That'll be permanent ink, then, on a white (?) nylon shirt.. If he tells you a big boy did it and ran away, I wouldn't necessarily ring the school on the first day back to complain about it.
Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!
  • Try soaking in milk - it gets ink stains out

  • Thank you for the suggestions, will try them all (maybe all at once!!) It's the red shirt but since the pen is black it doesn't really make a difference I suppose.
I asked him what happened but he used one of his set replies "Dunno" This kid can get filthy in his sleep!

the joy of whiteboard pens is they are not permenant
to remove, if normal washing hasnt
do what you do with biro pen marks

    hairspray, and blot
    blot
    and blot a bit more
    then wash as normal

I second that, hairspray. I have a left hander in the house, whose left arm and hand are always covered in whiteboard pen. Hairspray is my friend. Don't think I've ever used it for it's intended purpose!

Thank you, will give hairspray a go. Just need to go and buy some:D I never realised there were so many other uses for stuff apart from what it was designed for.
This board has really opened my eyes.

Bodyspray also works according to my yr 11 pupils - never tried it but maybe worth a go
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

I used Impulse to remove whiteboard marks off a whiteboard (they had dried on after being left for so long!) so I suppose any body spray would work!

Some great ideas thanks. My knowledge of stain removal started and finished with vanish I'm afraid!
