Problem with internet connection when connecting laptop to TV

When i connect my macbook to my television via DVI connection, i seem to lose internet connection. this didn't happen at first, but seems to be a regular thing now. anyone got any ideas?
This happens when I try to watch bbciplayer. up to now, i've been downloading them on the iplayer program but it takes ages and is tedious.
