Egg PPI reclaiming - advise please

My husband recently realised he had PPI on his Egg card (he only realised when he had logged into his internet account and saw it was on there, he'd actually had the card for around 9yrs at this point!).
Anyway, he couldn't remember ever applying for PPI so we sent a letter to Egg and have had this reply:
"After carrying out a full review of the account, our records indicate that you purchased the insurance through Egg website on x Jan 2000. Our online service:
* does not require you to take payment protection ins as a condition of obtaining the credit card
* does not provide an advisory service
* required you to positiviely confirm you wished to purchase this policy during the time of the online application
* provided full terms and conditions of the policy and requested you read them before submitting"
They have enclosed a copy of his original application does state in a box "payment protection: accident, sickness, unemployment and life" but I'm not sure whether tha appears bcause he had selected a tick box or something.
I just wondered what his next step should be. They have said that they are unable to uphold his complaint and it has been closed. The trouble is my husband is not very computer literate so maybe he did select the box and hadn't even realised the implications at the time.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Maybe we shouldn't try and pursue it any further?
Many thanks
