Lloyds tsb gold account monthly charge reclaim

Options
Hi
Been lurking on the forum and site for a while now. I reading up on possibly changing my current Bank account.

I have a Lloyds TSB gold account which has a monthly fee of £12, I know their has been much talk about wrongful bank charges and was wondering if this formed part of this, as I thinking I may have claim for these charges.

Background info Held the gold account for 10 years now.

I was encouraged to upgrade my bank account to Gold to gain the benefits they offer and described to me. The benefits included Mobile phone cover, sentinel card cover and AA breakdown cover (which may have been introduced later) After reading today through my account benefits I see that both the Mobile cover and sentinel have to registered before they become active, the AA is actived with your account.

After many years of mobile phones contracts and turning down insurance I find it quite worrying that had I tried to claim on my lloyds mobile cover to my horror it would not be active.

Therefore I believe I could write to my bank and suggest a claim of the monthly £12 fee on the account as I believe I have been MIS-SOLD.

Barking up the wrong tree or worth a try??

Thanks for any replies

This is stated in the gold account info

If the account is not fit for purpose for you then you should change it to a non fee based account. Do you have AA cover?
Unless you had had cover already in place and were not made aware of the account benefits and you were eligible for them then I believe that you would be unsuccessful on this one. If you said you never had a card or mobile phone then my view might well have been different.
the 10 years of having it though would have been one stumbling block I would not be able to argue though.
My advice: if the account is not working for you then get rid of the extras so you do not pay for having a bank account.

  • I have had a LloydsTSB gold account for years. When I took it out Lloyds said if I kept a minimum of £2000 in my account I wouldnt have to pay a monthly fee. A couple of years ago I received a letter from LloydsTSB to say this perk will no longer be aailable and I would have to pay the £12 monthly fee and I have paid this ever since. Please could someone tell me if they can do this and if not how do i go about trying to claim the money back that I have been charged so far. When I took the account I was on the understandign that it was free and nothing was said about the policy could be changed in future years. I do use the travel & mobile insurance within the account but still feel that I shouldnt have to pay the fee if this was not discussed when I first started using it. Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks

So, they told you the fee would be £12 per month and you accepted this. So, why do you think you should get some money back?
When I took the account I was on the understandign that it was free and nothing was said about the policy could be changed in future years.

Prices rise. Products change. You have confirmed you were informed in writing of the change. So, why did you not change the account then?

You never have a guarantee that these things will remain the same. They have a responsibility to give you notice of change and the right to withdraw from the scheme if you wish.
