Child tax credit stopped in error

I just found out today that they cancelled my claim in error and even though it is their msitake they can't reinstate the claim but have to send out new forms and process a new claim which could take 3 weeks, leaving just child benefit to live on.What makes it worse is I am due in 5 weeks and could really do without this stress.Don't know how to manage-the child benefit will barely cover food let alone petrol and there's no way I will be able to pay any bills at all.I am gutted.

If it's been stopped due to an error at their end you should be able to get an emergency payment at your local tax office, if you call them they will be able to tell you where the nearest one is

This is the HMRC link to find your local enquiry centre http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/enq/main.htm

You can visit the centre and ask for a hardship payment. You don't need an appointment for this though you will have to wait whilst those people who have appointments are taken first. Best not to call in around lunch time.

You need to take with you 2 forms of ID. 1 must have your photograph (driving license, passport etc)
and the other must have your name and current address (recent utility bill, bank statement).

The staff at the enquiry centre may also be able to put a new claim on the system while you are there depending on how busy they are with appointments. If they can't do it there and then you can make an appointment to return in a couple of days time. That still works out quicker than having to wait for a form to come out to you and then sent back.

They told me they couldn't do that as it's a joint claim.

Pam17-I am planning to go to the local tax office anyway tomorrow as the main tax credit helpline said they might have the forms there to fill in so at least I wouldn't have to wait to get them sent out but they didn't mention anything about being able to put the new claim online there.I will definitely ask if they can do it though and also ask for the hardship payment.

Quick update-went this morning at 8:30, they asked me to come back for an appointment at 10 so I did.Filled in the forms there and then.Asked about hardship payment but was told they don't do them any more and I would have to apply for a crisis loan. She did say she thought the forms would be processed in the office rather than being sent off but couldn't give me any idea of when it would be sorted. She said I would probably get a payment before a letter so just to keep an eye on the bank account.I get the child benefit tomorrow so hopefully will manage on that till it gets sorted.Had to give OH £10 for petrol this morning as he won't manage to get to work otherwise-the perils of working 25 miles away :( Anyway I feel a bit calmer about it all now.

I can highly recommend going to the local tax office-I filled in the forms there and then(after making an appointment), a manager rang me back yesterday to say it was on the computer and she would be keeping an eye on it, and rang again today to say it has been processed and I would be getting a payment on Friday :) Such a relief!!
