British Gas Homecare - any good ?

Have got a new baby boy and need to make sure we have a warm home for the Winter so thinking about the above - any advice or tips would be most welcome as we dont know how old the boiler is etc due to recent house move. Could BG decide that they cant fix our current system and hence force us into buying a new system - in which case why pay for the cover ?
Thanks to all who reply.

We've had them for about 12 years, keeping an old GlowWorm boiler going with no problem - they work on the principal that if the spares are available then they will repair it, but obviously if they aren't they cannot but you are not tied into buying a replacement from them anyway so there's no advantage to them condemning it. We're only replacing ours now because cost of gas has meant that a new condensing boiler replacement makes financial sense (& we're not using BG - quoted 30% - 50% higher than local CORGI installers).0

I have this policy and have had no problems at all. I have had only one call out and they came very quicklt fixed the problem and no charge. I like the 6 mth service too.

My only complait with them recently is that they responded to a fault with my boiler too slowly IMO during the coldest part of the year. They then took another 24 hours to get the part. by which time we were getting hacked off to say the least.
I complained to their head office and got a £30 rebate by way of an apology.
Also, a word of caution. If they condemn a boiler due to lack of spares, it's worth checking that the spares really are no longer available. My plumber friend uses a couple of online suppliers of boiler spares and did infact locate spares for an old boiler that another firm (not BG) claimed were no longer available.
If you get to this situation and find that BG won't repair your boiler due to not being able to get the spares, then I would have thought a phonecall to their complaints dept with the correct info would sort it.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0
