sickness benefit

My son has just entered breakdown mode. This happened 2 years ago and has started again now. Although he thinks he will be back at work after a week off, I know this won't happen. He won't be able to hold down a job for months. The problem is that he has a wife, 2 children and a mortgage and only about £1,300 in savings. His wife earns approx £650 per month working part time. Does anybody know what sort of help he will get, how the mortgage and bills will be paid. This is a nightmare time and I am so frightened for them.
