Has anyone claimed themselves off 3rd party car insurnace for no claims bonus?

Hi, might be a bit of a long post!
Recently my car (and another one) was hit while parked at the side of the street outside my house. The car was written off, going through my insurance company they have given my the price for the car minus the no-claims bonus. They have said i need to claim this from the other persons insurance company and they will not help me as i did not take out legal cover. I also had to pay for a hire car for a few weeks as the insurance does not cover this when your car is written off. To get the other persons details i need to apply to the police for their report as we did not witness the accident. However the other person handed themselves in the next day, so Police have all the details.

So my question is, has anyone applied to the other persons insurnace company and actually got anywhere with claiming money back? Just have a funny feeling its not going to be easy!!

You claim for your EXCESS, not NCB.

Lots of people have claimed the cost back from other insurers. Have a search on here.
