If you are using the chicken juices, pour them into a bowl, leave to settle for a minute or two to let the fat come to the top, then if you get a lettuce/cabbage/etc leaf straight from the fridge and brush it over the surface, the fat will solidify as it touches the cold leaf and stick to it. You can get quite a bit of fat off that way. Slight waste of veg but I guess you could use the slightly wilted outside leaves that you would probably have thrown away anyway.
You can do it with the gravy once it is made too, if you find there's still a layer of fat on the surface."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Elfen, well done on the essays.
I have a chicken roasting in the oven but I'm rubbish at making the gravy, any ideas for fool proof gravy?
I take the chicken out to rest and cover in tin foil.
Tilt the roasting tin and spoon off 3 tbsp of grease
Add some water from the veg
Stir like crazy over a medium/high heat to reduce down
mix some cornflour and add over a gentler heat to thicken up
* Put the grease on kitchen roll don't put down the sink or it'll block it up.

Claire I would say no you couldn't manage a whole plot or even half a plot. Is there anyone that might like to share half a plot with you. You should just about be able to manage that with some help from family but its a huge commitmentI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Evening all
Having a lovely few days without DD's - missing them like crazy but nice to have the house stay tidy!
Have pottered in the garden, caught up on some niggly jobs, got up to date with the filing and walked just over 11 miles in the last few days.
Am feeling very content at the moment, DH seems to have stabilized over the past 2 months and we're coping....ok it's no where near ideal but it's managable at the moment....long may it continue. (the contentment that is)"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W.
