courgette seeds
Hello growers
It always says in instructions for sowing squash and pumpkin seeds 'sow them on their sides'. Does this mean on their sides lying flat or on their edges? Actually I expect they will germinate which ever way up they are but I wondered which is the 'right' way. And why.
Someone will know.

I always understood it to be on their edged sides.
But then I saw a recent thing, where they talked about them being blunt end down, pointy end up.
And I remember a trial where they attempted to test all the theories and found that it made absolutely no difference which way you sow them.
So, believe what you will

Never plant flat seeds ( pumpkin courgettes squash marrow or sunflowers) FLAT. They will rot as the water stays on the flat surface !!!! Always plant on their sides - tip in first .
Good luck.
Ps
Out of 15 courgette seeds planted I have 15 actual plants

I just stick them in the pots and they germinate....didn't realise it would matter. Why not do an experiment on yours?0
