Did you read the first post? The person in question is retiring from their current job at 55. It's not like they're asking for a 30 year morgage aged 40 or something.0 -
If you are going to stop people paying affordable mortgage payments in retirement then you also need to to stop people paying affordable rents.
They serve the same purpose, providing a roof over your head.
Being mortgage free just reduces the retirement income needs, if income levels support a mortgage then there should be no problem..
Planning to use a pension lump sum to pay off a mortgage as part of retirement palnning can be a very good idea.0 -
It wasnt about mortgages in retirement not permitted..it was about this comment.........enders don't always ask you that question,
An application would never get thru u/writing if this wasnt answered....
The majority of people could not meet mortgage payments in retirement...Compliance is very strict around this...rightly so0 -
Most people don't retire at 55. As long as your mortgage term expires before a normal retirement age then I guess they might not ask. I say this because I wasn't asked.0

It is a question that appears on every mortgage application....
POST 11.....Quote andrewmp : It shouldn't be a problem, they won't care when he is due to retire, they don't even ask. They never asked me anyway.
I really do wish you would stop posting opinion particularly when it is misleading...of course lenders care when you retire....lending into retirment is a big issue with the FSA......0 -
I wish you would learn to quote.
I can post my opinions as often as I like. Just like you and your "thanks" buddy _Andy_ do.0 -
