Got DLA Decision

OH rang DLA today to ask how the progress on his claim was going and the man on fone checked the screen and the decision had been made this morning and the man from Del Monte said yes sorry got a bit carried away then. Well he got an award for MRC and HRM but he didnt find out for how long but we'll find out when the letter comes supposedly by middle of next week.

Couldn't have come at a better time really as our car is really on its last legs but still unsure what to do if to go the motability route or get our own.

    Hiya Cutesmile,

Well done. Getting the award really does make a big difference and now he's on middle rate care you can claim Carer's Allowance if you don't earn more than £100ish per week.

Was it your hubby who is also claiming ESA? If it is and you claim Carer's you'll be about £30 a week better off on top of your DLA and ESA.

Oh yeah just realised he's got exactly the same DLA award as my hubby for the same condition and he may get lucky and be put in the support group for ESA like mine too.

I dont work as I had to give my job up a few years ago due to ill health and he became my carer last year after I went to college but had to give that up also because my health went down hill but now I'm also having to care for him as well as myself but we do say in the vows in sickness & in health.

Great news for you. As for the car, I had always had my own car (on finance) until a couple of years ago, even though my son was on HRM. I decided to get a car through Motability and I have to say it is the best decision I made. I visited every dealer in my town and decided to get a Nissan Note. Everything was dealt with quickly and easily, and I had the car the following week (Renault told me it would take three or four months). I know different delaers have different time scales, so it's worth asking, especially if your current car won't last much longer.

Don't forget that included in a Motability car, you get insurance, services, tyres, RAC membership, any repairs, as well as the car tax that you get when you are on HRM. the car tax is pposted to you insttead of having to take it to the Post Office.

I've use the RAC twice - both times there was a nail in the tyre and I couldn't change it. Both times they were there in less than an hour (one occasion was around teatime, the other was slightly later). On both occasions, the tyre had to be replaced.

Good luck with whatever you decide regarding the car x

Well done, that's great news and a huge relief for you both.

Like kingfisherblue i did the car hunting with motability and also choose a Nissan Note, really good car for me and my needs. Although mine took a staggering 2 weeks to be ordered and delivered, when i was expecting 3 months, as others had told me.
