wide or slim hair staighteners??

My mum bought me a set of CHI straighteners for my bday today, they are made by the same company as GHD apparently, well they work the same coz my friend has GHD ones and i used to use them.

The man in the shop told me the slimmer ones are best as they are easier to handle?? I have very thick hair and they work a treat!
