Duracell Charger - duracell batteries only?

Just bought a Duracell 1 hour AA and AAA battery charger from Argos, but have resisted opening it because instructions on the outside say it is to be used with Duracell batteries only (of which 4 are supplied) - use any others and they might explode. No mention was made of this in the Argos catalogue.
At this stage I can just take it back but I'd prefer to know it can use any rechargable batteries because it seemed like a decent price (£17.99) for a brand '1 hour' charger.
Does anyone have any knowledge of such issues?
Thanks very much.

You are highly unlikely to have any problems with non-duracell batteries. It is just that they dont want to say "go on use any batteries you like - we don't care" No - "buy ours please, cos that's where we make out money"We all evolve - get on with it0

a battery charger is a battery charger irrespective of make. Just use whatever you like. Just like my shampoo bottle tells me to use their conditioner0

yeh as long as they are the same type of battery as the duracell ones (ie Li-ion) then there wont be any problemSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

Have just found this thread after needing to know the same sort of thing myself.
Can you just confirm for me that the Duracell charger i have (Duracell Rechargable Accu) 30 minute charger which comes with 4AA NiMH batteries, will be ok to use with new Uniross rechargable 700mAH AAA Ni-MH batteries that i have brought from Argos?
There were two extra free in the pack of four which is what tempted me to buy them. I also have a pack of those AA batteries from the pound shop, will they be safe to use? They have written on them 800mAh Ni-Cd AA 1.2V.
Also on the back of the pack it says in a fast charge the uniross will take 1 hour, will this be the case in the Duracell charger or not? One more thing do these have memory issues where you have to have a full charge and discharge for a few times before the full battery life is reached?
Sorry for all the questions but do not want to go and open them and then cant use them and also a bit concerned due to the Duracell instructions saying not to use other batteries as there may be a risk of injury ( i do realise they could be saying this just so you dont use other makes).0 -
From what I recall from reading about rechargable batteries, Ni-Cd batteries are affected by 'memory' issues - I'm pretty sure all common consensus is that Ni-MH batteries are the way to go.
I shouldn't worry about using other brands though. I have been with no problems.I am a cider drinker - like my father before me.0
