Well you asked for one Needhelpsaving, so here it is. This is a place to talk about your addiction to being a MFW:rotfl:

I was just thinking today there used to be a 'what have you done to pay off your mortgage today?' thread. I used to read it all the time. Maybe that is the sort of thing an addict needs to keep themselves going. :rotfl:0

I went to work, what did you do?Mortgage Free as of 31/5/11 :j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
- I watched the kids while DH worked.
- I made the 6th rubber chicken meal of the week.
- I sent all my shopping data to shop and scan and earned £1.10.
- I found some coats the kids no longer wear to ebay. Will load over the weekend.
- Rounded the bank account down to the nearest tenner (so paid £3.36 off)
- I made the kids not watch as much telly as normal and have a run round for free outside.
- I went to the freebie part of the site and registered for a free sample of kids clothes and joined the asda consumer panel.
- I read some threads here and the frugal living thread.
- I've been playing round with my budget spreadsheet yet again to try and workout what i could overpay each month. Really sad as it is a bit theoretical as you can't always plan for every month.
- Only put the immersion heater on for 10 minutes rather than 20 before i washed my hair. About right as the water ran out as i was using it.
- Been investigating an energy use monitor and a solar charger on ebay. I think i can get both for free if i can cash in my vouchers.

My name is chirpchirp and my life is dictated by thoughts about the mortgage, especially when I'm not working.0

Yep, I think about being MF most days, so in the mean time I just push on with my over payments in the knowledge that the light at the end of the tunnel is actually getting closer...ORIGINAL MORTGAGE AMOUNT £106,454.00 (Started Sept 2007)
NOV 2021 O/S AMOUNT £1,694.41 OUR DEBT REDUCED BY £104,759.59 by std regular, over-payments & off-setting.
BofE +0.19% Tracker Repayment Offset Mortgage Discounted Sept 07-10 then increased to BofE +0.62% until 20270 -
I was a MFW addict, I constantly checked where I was up to with my overpayments, how much interest I was paying everyday and how much could I overpay this month.
Now I'm a wannabe no more, and I'm now addicted to checking how much is in my holiday/new car pot.
I can't tell you how much this was my best ever light bulb moment and keep up the good work to everyone on this thread.Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.0 -
My name's GG and I too am an addict
.
Today I have:
- set up all my 2010/11 spreadsheets
- taken out new house insurance on BTL & holiday home. Both cheaper than last year
- went back to Co-op to reclaim £1.52 as they had overcharged on tea bags
- went to local Morrisons to buy Ariel tablets on less than 1/2 price offer, also had 4 x £1 vouchers. Bought the last remaining 2. Drove to next town (had to go there anyway) and bought another 2 :T
- bought some stuff for new kitchen but all budgeted for
- spent too long on hereA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

I spend all day every day thinking about it but as you can see from my sig I've not even started
Cos I'm still on mat leave I'm worried that if I overpay then I'll need the money for something!
I promise that when I go back to work at the end of May I WILL start overpaying. I spend my days planning what money can go where when I get it.
Today I have- done a Mystery Shop at the supermarket I was going to anyway
- Cleaned the car so saved £4 on getting it done at the car wash
- Cleaned the outside of the conservatory - was debating getting someone in to do it
- Been given the rent money off BIL who lodges with us (til next weekend0 £40
- Looked at booking a hotel in Chester for a night but decided to drive home after the races and save £120 :money:
I have a spreadsheet which shows what money I have coming in and where it is goingA very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
Brilliant. Glad to see that others find it useful to share what they have done.
Today i have:- baked snacks for DH and kids from storecupboard supplies
- used the oven to cook a quiche, jam tarts, twinks and cake all at the same time so it was on for about 45 mins but full
- used my slow cooker to make a casserole using all the leftover tubs in the fridge so no waste
- listed 19 pieces of the finest junk from my house on ebay
- spent ages looking at gas and electric costs after the weekly meter reading
- switched gas and electric suppliers to save about £20 per month, after going via quidco and uswitch naturally
- Got DH to tart up the garden through hard graft and using supplies we already own
- checked all my internet banking accounts as usual
365 pints of milk a year - i normally get 6 pints for £1.45 from c.co. so i reckon a saving of about £88.10 a year. Wow. I'm sure they will only eat more of something else though so it won't save me that much. :rotfl:0 -
I am very mortgage free obsessed.
I live by myself and in the last few years have developed problems with my eyes which makes it very uncomfortable to drive, work in an office, use computers. Not ideal as I work 25 miles away in IT! When my current job goes I'm really going to struggle for income - and definitely won't be on the salary I'm on now.
So a few years ago I started seriously paying off the mortgage as aggressively as I sensibly could. And my £127K mortgage at the end of 2006 is now £17K
But now I'm getting near the end I'm becoming more impatient - I'm very aware of what the balance is, what interest per day I'm paying, how quickly I can theoretically pay it off.0
