Camping tour around Ireland

We're off to Ireland on the 3rd sept for 2 weeks, have got the ferry booked, just absolutely no plans for when we're there.
We were thinking about rough camping, either with our small tent or bivvy bags.
Anyone got any advice about anything? Must see sights? Decent and cheap campsites (for when we need a shower)? etc?

Ireland is a great place for wandering around. I find that the easiest way to decide where to go is to look at some of the 'tours' websites and see where they are going. (If they dont go to were people want to go then they go out of business)
Have a look at the tours on here and get an idea of what they think people want to see http://www.affordabletours.com/Ireland/

Re camping, remember it tends to be wetter there than here.
The Irish are far more laid back about trespassing so you will have no probs finding somewhere at the side of the road if you can't find a convenient site.
They have B & B's everywhere so if hygiene becomes a problem you can book into one to get an occasional bath!!
Have a great HolidayI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
I had a lovely holiday touring around ireland for 2 weeks a few years ago. My friend is irish so stayed mainly with her family and friends.
Some highlights were the arran islands off county galway (we stayed in a hostel there) and Donegal (stayed in a caravan).
Hope u have lovely weather x:beer:0 -
For a decent campsite near Dublin try Camac Valley, we stayed there for 3 days last week and were very impressed. There were a lot of tents on site, the facilities are very good and it's very handy for Dublin.0

Dingle and the Ring of Kerry are fab.
If you get yourself a Rough Guide out of the library and plan the route that is probably best and get tips on camping sights.
There is a route that goes off the Ring of Kerry and goes past a Chocolate factory (a large shed off a rough track) with free taster samples, the factory supply lots of top names in London. They are yum! If you don't get to the factory, the sights along the Ring of Kerry are amazing. Make sure you go the correct way around, as you might end up facing coaches on every bend if you do against the traffic, so read up about it.
Dingle is lovely. Lots of painted buildings, a real holiday atmosphere. Take a ferry to see Fungi the dolphin.0 -

you don't say which port you arrive at. if dun laoghaire a short drive south to shankill to a reasonble campsite. if rosslare at least 1 site within 5 mins.
the arran isles reachable from galway and well worth a visit.
the cliffs of mohir further south: stunning but beware: it blows a hooley up there, so much so it can lift pebbles off the shore.
the southeast waterford/wexford/kilkenny is good to explore and allegedly gets the best of the weather ( but expect rain - ireland is called the emerald isle for a reason). Europe's oldest working lighthouse is located at hook head, co.wexford and offers tours. enjoyable. while you're in the area do the touristy thing and visit the waterford crystal centre in waterford city. be prepared for the pushy americans who flock here.
hope this is of some help. have a pleasant trip.

I will add a few places I love, apart from Dingle and Kerry in general which is one of the lovliest places on earth, I have never been camping in Ireland so will stick to places and sights.
The whole coast has some amazing beaches and little towns and great pubs, are you travelling by car?0
