wow, i just treated myself to a broadband dongle as an early b'day pressie (ahem years old on sunday..) ,

and the difference between that and my old dial-up is amazing!

with a borrowed pc running xp, there are a few things i instantly dont like- any help / tips to rectify would be very welcome- cheers!

live search box- no way to remove that option, very distracting.. i'll use proper google site if i want something thankee v much!

hate the option 'open in new tab'? arrggh!

website title labels ..??

and minimised window tabs, on bottom toolbar- any way to keep separate, rather than lump all together in one?

trhings were so much easier with windows 98... grumble/.. lol

update sat 10/april- seem to have 'gained' a very irritating and constantly nagging 'security tool'm that objects to me running amy program.. most likely malware, but i cannot se how to delete/disable it?

"Open in new tab" is great! I have about 30 tabs open atm to remind me of sites where I need to do something...

IIRC, you can stop XP lumping together the tabs on the bottom bar by right-clicking the toolbar and unticking "Group similar taskbar buttons".

    Remove live toolbar

You don't have to use open in new tab, go into Tools / Internet options and click on Settings in the Tab section then select they option you prefer although I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to use this !

Yes, malware. Either follow the generic malware removal sticky at the top of this sub-forum or use a specific procedure like this one:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-security-tool

You may want to look into how you got it. In all probability, either you have not got up-to-date patches via Windows Update or your browser security level is set too low.
