Is a 20 year old appropriate as a Parliamentary candidate?

She illustrates a classic problem.
We all have natural bias. Either for, or against. Some people don't like the older candidates, some don't like younger, etc.
If she is any good it would show in some kind of extended interview. Something like the apprentice. It's got many faults that show, but you do get to see how a person responds under pressure, and their true character...not just what they say in their video soundbite.
As it is, we get to hear her spiel, which is standard fodder. A politician will say anything to get elected, we know that.0 -
She's what's known as a paper candidate. Labour don't have a hope in hell of winning the seat but it looks bad for any of the 3 parties if they have no representation in any constituency, so they just put up an up and coming member for the experience.0

Labour seem to think so in East Worthing and Shoreham by selecting Emily Benn, the granddaughter of Tony Benn. I'm not sure what experience or insight she would bring to Parliament apart form being related to Tony Benn:
I've heard of the phrase 'career politician', but getting involved at the age of two brings it to a whole new level! It's a shame she couldn't just enjoy being a toddler while it lasted!
Isn't that a bit judgemental about 55 year olds!
I don't think you'll find many people that disagree with that....
Why are you standing for Parliament then? I'm confused.

No, it's not appropriate. There should be a minimum age of 25 or even 28 for MPs, maybe even higher. It's not a job for spotty kids just out of school.0 -
She really isn't that good looking0

Being selected as an MP should be like jury service, you randomly get invited to do it. Nobody who wants to be an MP should be allowed to be one.0

You could be onto something ... how about when you get to 50 (i.e. you've probably had family/job/experience etc) you then become eligable to be selected.... ??0 -
Labour must love her as a potential MP. Female and young. Harriett 'Hate-men' Harman will have a field day if she gets in.0
