especially if the little dears have to take them home to finish the job because of the British climate!

This l feel is the best option as it takes away that pressure of the six week holidays, it also helps the children to care for something and as Davesnave has mentioned they can then undertake the other fun tasks and bring them back to school in September. Print out a growth chart for them to complete. Bless them, they won't realise how much learning they can do whilst having fun.

Also the loo roll inners is a fantastic idea, thats what we have used this year. We grew our sunflowers last year from the seeds of our 2008 sunflowers, this year we are growing both 2008 and 2009 seeds, there on the windowsill already just waiting for the first shoots to appear.

Could you not tell a seed company your plans and ask if they could help you out with a big discount?

Taking them home over the summer is a great learning opportunity for most but just check the children all have a place to grow them as some my not.

Did you sort some out? I found a cardboard box with a load of sunflower seeds in today.

They were seeds kept from sunflowers we grew ourselves, Originally started as kids sunflowers meant to grow to around 5ft some easily exceeded this, I kept the seeds from the larger plants & replanted them the following year.

If you want them send me a private message with postal details. I will pop them into an envelope for you.

I have a big envelope full of seeds harvested from our huge ones last year. they easily reached about 10 foot tall!!! I have already given lots to friends and also a pile to my wee one's nursery as they were going to plant them with the kids. PM me and I, too would be happy to post some to you.
I agree, you may be pushing it a bit to get them growing well by mid July. What our kids did last year was to plant them up in cups, bring them home and continue them in the garden, and then photograph themselves beside the sunflowers in the summer and bring in the photos.

    Looks like nobody wants them.

Might have a wonder around the streets & park see if i can find somewhere to sneak a few seeds in. Where the grasscutters wont chop them down.

The only sunflowers I have grown were the ones that come in a packet and purchased at Holland & Barrett. Any I didn't sow were eaten by me. I got some beautiful and extremely tall sunflowers that way. None of the seeds I planted failed to germinate. It was very satisfying especially as I kept some of the seeds from the sunflowers and grew more the following year.
