Moving from North East to Northern Ireland

I'm not sure if this is the right board but hopefully someone will point me in the right direction. It looks like we are leaving Durham and moving to Northern Ireland. As much as I plan a big de clutter there are still a lot of big things I want to take with me, beds, sofas etc

I have no idea where to start looking as regarding transporting these items. Is it better to have a company move them for you or hiring a large van and taking them ourselves?

Has anybody any suggestions of where I should start looking or personal experience of a similar move?

Moving house is a stressful time as it is. Moving your own things in a hired van is likely to add to the stress. The professional moving companies do it all the time and now how to pavk things and stack things so that there is no damage to your goods. If they do get damaged they are insured, which is unlikely to be the case if you move yourself.

I would start with removal companies in Northern Ireland as they may be bringing a load over to the mainland but nothing to take back, and therfore you may get a cheap rate as this will offset some of their costs.

i moved from london back to manchester. after i checked all the prices for removals, i decided to sell all the furniture with the house, and buy new here. it was cheaper.

i just brought all the clothing, personal effects and small electric items.
i owned a transit van then, so that was very easy.

    Thanks both

ormus as much as it would be easier to do that I have quite a few
pieces of bespoke furniture and there is no way it would ever be cheaper to replace them. I have already started being ruthless with some less important things

reckon itll cost about 100 quid per large item to shift.
