Just wanted to point out that there are a number of causes of this error, not just the driver. At best it could be a loose cable or dodgy port (try a different cable, plug into a different port etc.) At worst it could be a counterfeit SD card (eBay is a prime source for fake/counterfeit cards especially, it seems, from China based sellers). If you have the opportunity, try the card on another computer, to establish all is well before uninstalling SP3.

Updated versions of the SD drivers for XP SP3 are available from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959465/en-us
These were released after the advice to revert to pre-sp3 files was prevalent on the web. Note that this hotfix does not reference your specific error, but are the latest I could find with all the files above included and MS hotfixes are cumulative.
I would also try installing these before uninstalling SP3

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

that link and solution appear to be for a totally different problem albeit sd card based, bit like saying I can't repair the gearbox but I can change a wheel, both are car related.

I said the issue in the article was for a different problem. However, as I also stated, hotfixes are cumulative, which means the files in the hotfix contain all the previous fixes. I can say this without fear of contradiction because I know the process intimately - I worked for Microsoft for twelve years creating hotfixes. Not for core - who are responsible for these files, but I had access to the Windows source code and, trust me, the processes are the same as those I worked under.

So to expand on your analogy, what I am saying is a bit like saying I can't repair the cogs in the gearbox, but here is a new gearbox that may well have had all the gears changed already and is easier than changing the whole car for an earlier model. I can't say for certain it will resolve the issue because I no longer have the resources to test it. I can say that it is a quick and easy download & install which is a better first step than uninstalling a whole service pack and losing all the benefits of the SP (not to mention the security fixes)
Uninstalling would only be a temporary fix anyway as if the issue is with the drivers, and if the issue is not fixed in the later versions and if the issue is resolved by rolling back the drivers, those drivers will be updated again as soon as Windows Update has a new set to deliver, unless you are also sanctioning never updating again. And yes, a hotfix targeted for SP2 is actually based on the latest (ie SP3) source code, so this means no updates produced after SP3.

I didn't want to mention all this as it is all a bit too much overkill for me, and I do not normally mention my work life when acting in a private capacity, but in this instance I felt forced to justify myself. Now that I have, I might as well point out that in all probability, if the problem is in the driver then sdbus.sys is most likely the culprit, not the other two files and if not resolved via the first hotfix, it will almost definitely be resolved in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970685/en-us - not because this article details the same problem either, but because it includes 946629 Some Secure Digital (SD) cards do not work correctly on Windows XP-based computers, 969179 Windows XP-based computer becomes unresponsive or displays a "STOP 0x000000A5" error message during system shutdown & 969145 Windows XP Service Pack 3-based computer crashes when you use an SD card, plus some others that I can't be bothered listing.
There have been a lot of changes to this file in the 2+ years since the steps you quoted were first given out by Microsoft. Maybe, none of these changes address this specific issue, even though MS Support were aware of it. But it is not hard to try first and see. For what it is worth, I suggested the first hotfix because it was built more than 6 months after MS were first made aware of this problem. If none of the hotfixes work, SP3 can still be uninstalled as a last resort, though I wouldn't personally recommend doing so as you lose so much just to get an SD card working.

I'm not here to create conflict, I am happy to discuss it further with you via PM, but not here as it will get technical very quickly any will do nothing to help hylax, who only wants to get the card working, which is a perfectly reasonable request.

I have tried to transfer to a standard sd card and it is working. I bought the micro card and adapter from a dealer connected with Amazon. I will check this out. Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Problem solved. My card reader was not compatible with SDHC cards. Bought a suitable reader and everything is OK. Thanks for the help fellows.
