Cutlery in Diswasher

Ive recently noticed small chunks taken out of the knives that we put into our dishwasher, can anyone offer any advice as to what is causing this or what we can do to stop it

Sorry to say, it's probably low quality stainless steel cutlery - dishwashers use quite harsh chemicals & they will attack the surface of steel - will also make glass, especially crystal glass, go cloudy eventually. Try to empty your dishwasher quite soon after finshing, also there are 'glass-care' dishwasher tablets which will help but it took us a few attempts to find some decent cheap cutlery which survived more than 6 months.

    Most probably Intergranular corrosion!

Don't put any thing in a dish washer that you don't want eventually to replace!
I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes.

    Hi.

Have noticed something similar with our dishwashers.

WHen I moved out from my parents, the knives I took to mine washed ok in the dishwasher. In my dishwasher, they start to rust a bit.

Also, I've noticed that in my dishwasher, if I leave the washer to dry with it closed, the glasses go really cloudy! If I open the washer, and leave it to dry, then it works great! And they're sparkling clear!

With my partners dishwasher, you don't have any problems with the drying process, and it drys glasses perfectly without it closing! But saying that, he plates chip a little, and we're guessing that that is from the spinner at the bottom!

What I'm trying to say is, I guess it's the dishwasher. Have you changed recently? Or it could be that it's finally decided to give up the ghost!!!

    Cheers,

    David
  • Despite the obvious safety implications in respect of knives and instructions on how to load the dishwasher, I always find that cutlery fares better when the pointy ends are sticking up, it also washes them cleaner too. I think crockery chips because of not taking care when loading it.

Avoid cheap dishwasher products too, it causes cloudy glasses, makes crockery fade and leaves stains and sometimes bits of what looks like rust on cutlery. And rinse aid or the all-in-one stuff is a must. Sometimes the filters in the bottom need cleaning also.

But, I put everything in it even all the components of the hob, oven, grill, microwave, grid from the barbeque, vases etc. Difficult to live without it.
