BT line needed for SKY internet and phone package - any loop holes?

Will be moving into my new house soon (finally) and interested in the Sky TV internet and phone package. However, they say I require a BT line. Which I dont think I will have when I move in since the previous occupant will cancel everything.

When I move in, do I need to set up a contract with BT and how would they feel about me immediately jumping ship to SKY. I assume they won’t like it and hit me with an early cancelation fee

How do I get around this without having to pay an early cancelation charge?

I have been told that the Post Office can set up a BT line which you can cancel after 1 month? is this true or BS?

I dont think there is a loop hole.

I think you have no choice but to set up a contract with BT and then switch over to SKY when the 12 month contract is over. Someone please correct me if Im wrong.

Not heard of the Post Office 1 month rolling contract, if true sounds very good and a potential loop hole.

Sky can install a BT line, in fact any voice provider could if they wanted to not just BT retail.
"If you are a new Sky TV customer taking Sky Talk Calls and Sky Talk Line Rental, we can arrange for a new phone line to be installed or an existing phone line to be activated (“New Phone Line”). We will confirm the charge (if any) for your New Phone Line at the time of booking. Sky will not install a New Phone Line where extensive new line construction over and above standard needs is required."

Thats strange since the SKY customer service person I talked to said I needed to get a BT line first.

I obviously have the phone sockets but she advised me to register with BT (ie take out a contract) and said it was not possible for them to set me up with their Sky phone and internet until I do so.

"Details of the arrangements you need to make for an engineer visit and of our charges will be set out in your confirmation and appointment letters, or can be obtained by calling Sky Customer Services on 08442 410 499" from here - www . sky . com / shop / terms-conditions / talk / (remove spaces, can't post links yet).
    Hope that helps.

Not BS, the Post Office Home Phone package has no contract or tie in per se.

    I've just gone for this.

No minimum length contract, so you can cancel whenever with no charge?

Im also looking to get the SKY internet and phone package but they say I require a BT line. I will take out one with the postoffice and then cancel after month.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
