I think my laptop is dead not worth fixing who i have been told by a guy that fixes them,is it worth getting another to look at it to be sure?
If ts true then i would want to save all the stuff i have on the hardrive, how easy or hard is this,am i best to get this done by a guy that fixes computers or could i do this myself,if i did it myself how hard or easy would it be?
I cant start or use it anymore so i take it there is other ways to get the info from the hard drive, does the stuff saved also get saved from the desktop too,i cant honestly remember what info i have on this which to me i might not want others to see as in bank info, info about myself etc
What about programmes i have on it i saved or other stuff is it possible to get all the stuff from my computer, and if so whats the best way to get all saved?would i need to give the guy a hard drive to save all info onto as i might not have a new laptop for a while yet and would maybe want to transfer onto later.
After say i got my new laptop and got the stuff on my new one, what could i do with the hard drive i would get from my broken laptop, how would i get rid of it?as if i was too sell dump it anyone could get the info off it.
I am interested to know how much i can save from my broken laptop and if i can do this myself etc

If the disk is working, you can put it into a usb caddy to transfer data.
What is wrong with the laptop?.!!

what is a usb caddy?would i need to buy one?what is it,and could something like this be done by myself or cheaper getting a computer shop to do this.
Im sure the hard drive is still ok,i think its the connection that the mains cable goes into has got damaged, tripped over it the pther day and was feeling loose, was told by a guy that its not one that can be fixed easy, part of the motherboard?? and would be better off buying a new laptop not worth fixing, and cause its 3/4 years old.
I dont know if this is true or the guys just not interested in looking at it,he said he hadTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
Cheaper to do it yourself - search amazon.co.uk for 2.5" caddy - they are around £5, and you can then use the disk and caddy to backup a new pc. There are 2 types ide/pata and sata, you need the correct one for your hard disk. You take the hard disk out, (couple of screws), put it into the caddy, and plug into a usb port to get your data
If it's just the jack, yours could probably fixed, the parts are cheap enough, but it's labour intensive, which depending on the value of your laptop, may not make it cost effective to repair.

If you're going to buy a new laptop, why not just take the HDD out of the old one and install it in the new one? Then you retain all your programs AND your data. This way, you don't need to buy a separate caddy.
Maybe scour eBay for a refurbished model the same as your current one?
Or if you do buy new, then keep the HDD from the new machine as a backup drive.0 -

Unless the OP buys an identical laptop this is unlikely to work. Windows doesn't generally cope well with a complete change in hardware, especially if it is an OEM version. Also 3 or 4 years worth of build up of junk in Windows is something I'd be keen to be rid of, especially as the old laptop most likely ran Vista (also something most people are keep to be rid of!).
I would take the caddy route. Transfer the needed information to a new laptop and then you will have the old drive available to use as an external backup.0
