My medion laptop is dead help

I have this medion laptop which i have had about 3/4 years now,was looking to upgrade and get a new laptop but was holding off till a few months,a few weeks back i tripped over the power lead that plugs into the back of laptop and since that day it got worse, when i wiggled the cable the laptop would come on and sometimes now until one day there was nothing happening.
I had no idea if it was something to do with the cable i had tripped over and maybe the cable was damaged inside,or the laptop itself,i then took it to a computer shop local to me who said for insurance reasons he could not touch it and would need to be sent away at the cost of say £75 for time and say £15 for part,he said it if had been anything like a hard drive upgrade, new screen etc etc this could have been done but not this part,to be honest i just think he did not want to fix it,i then found another guy who i did not know fixed them too,he seemed more interested, said am i sure its not the lead, well i said i had already had it tested, cause the guy in the other shop did this for me.
So he said take it round and he would have a look, said would not fix until i was happy to go ahead,i went back today and he said it was or things if i remember right something to do with the place where i plug in the cable, was broken or was kind of loose, but also could not be fixed, well it could but would not be worth fixing,he said some other laptops the pin or whatever can be replaced etc,im sure he said mine goes into a motherboard and said to be honest the cost of fixing this its not worth it.
Would he just be another thats not interested?
He said he had took the laptop to bits and thats what he found,i took the laptop away and did not pay for his services, well he never said or asked for anything.
Is it possible that what part he said is true and that this clearly is not worth fixing?
and i am better to buy another laptop?

Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

Stripping a laptop down to replace the power socket really is quite a labour-intensive job, even though the part usually costs about £2.
In your position, with a 4 year old laptop I'd buy a new one and put the Medion on Ebay for spares - you'll probably get £30-40 for it.0 -
If its just the power connector that is the problem that he has diagnosed then i would say yes it is worth repairing. I did one for my sister on her laptop , acer wanted 3 weeks , i did it 4 hours. The part is probably only a £5 on ebay and if he took a bit of patience and time , it can be done. He has already done the hard bit , by taking it apart.
If you havent got the money to go out and buy and brand new laptop then Yes indeed repair it, If you were considering upgrading then probably look around for a deal. personally i'd have it repaired. Not only that is you still have all your data on your Hard drive. If you were to sell it as spares on ebay, i'd recommend taking that out.Peter: Hey Lois... what's this word? Lois: Evil. Seconded. Never sell/pass on your laptop, however badly broken, with HDD in place.
I'd probably go as far as removing the HDD, any optical drive, and the memory.
Keep the HDD, when you get a new machine, buy a USB caddy for this HDD, copy any data you need onto the new machine, and use the drive as a backup destination or extra storage space.
Offer the 'spares or repair' laptop, optical drive and memory separately on eBay, and you may get more in total than for the laptop with the pieces in place.0 -
Have you tried a google search for
"repairing medion laptop"
"repairing power socket medion laptop"
or variations thereof?
Honestly, it's much more fun to fix things yourself than go into computer shops and be fobbed off excuses like "Can't touch it, mate - insurance limitations"
WHAT?0 -
If it was purchased at Aldi and is under 3 years old, it will be under warranty.
See if you can find the receipt.0 -
You may also have it covered under any 'Accidental Damage' provisions in your house insurance...... and it was damaged accidentally, from the sounds of it....0

ive a medion laptop with the exact same fault, i took the bottom off and twisted round the socket until the metal prongs touched then held it in place with tweezers whist i put the power lead in, it works for about 1 1/2 hours then overheats.
Ive taken it to a few shops and most wont touch it because aparently then souldering reqired is very fiddly and you need a special small souldering iron that is temperature controlled. Those who will touch it want around £100.
Mine is about 4 years old but it cost me £800 from toysrus and is a good laptop when working so I do want to get it fixed.
I have emailed Medion to ask how much they will charge and never recived a reply.
My only advice would be check the person who is going to do it, has done it before. I was told by many shops they would do it but it was 50/50 if it would work again!!
If anyone knows how to contact Medion or if they do have a repair service please let me know.0
