Garlic and fruit???!!!!

Well we learn something every day. I was chatting to one of my neighbours this morning and I was saying that I bought a lot of organic apples as they were on BOGOF and now had two full fruitbowls, so I'd be eating mostly apples in the next few days as in this heat they may spoil soon.

She said, "Oh no they won't if you keep some garlic in the bowl with them". The she said that she always left a few cloves of garlic in her bowl and the fruit would remain fresh for much longer.

Has anyone else heard of this one? Needless to say there's a few plump garlic cloves with my apples now. I hope it works and she wasn't having me on... :o :rotfl:

I've heard that putting bananas with under-ripe items (avocados are a good example) helps to bring them on. It's something the bananas emit apparently.

Whatever you do, consume the garlic in one form or another - it will help you to live a long life and keep ailments at bay! A French friend once told me about garlic - 'Never sick, never die'.

Sadly he died some years ago but that was whisky and red wine.

  • Won't apples pick up a garlicky flavour? I've found that if i put nectarines in the same bowl as apples the apples taste a bit of nectarine. Garlic flavoured apples?????????
Your home is at risk if you do not keep up repayments on a mortgage or other loan secured on it.

LOL thanks schiff! I'm Italian, and eating garlic is in my genes! I eat an average of two cloves per day, in the various sauces and stuff I cook. Oh, and sauteed with a bit of rosemary in extra virgin olive oil, it makes a fried steak a real treat! ;)
