I have an update on laptop (on loan to DD at uni) which has an update which refused to load. Can I delete this safely (and how) and reinstall from the Microsoft site.
XP on sp3.Thanks in advance.
Peter

I have come across this before. The reason this particular update won't load is because the version of Vista you are using is not genuine.

Which part of 'XP on sp3' do you not understand?

Running but not using, firefox is the norm.

Yes - ignore it. I've had similar where fixes which didn't really exists were suggested but then failed to install. The chances are that the problem will fix itself eventually either by installing the fix or no longer suggesting it.

A quick check shows that is an obscure IE8 feature update so as you only use FF it is completely irrelevant to you anyway.

I had this issue only recently with a similar update, in the end I got rid by opting to install it manually and then unticking the update (at which it prompts that it will ignore the file of that name), took me two days to solve that pretty simple method too ;)
