Offer rejected, they want a little bit more.

Hello
I put an offer of £160k on a property priced at £170k (originally £180k) on Wednesday. The estate agent originally said that offers of £150k and £155k from other buyers were rejected and that the vendors would not consider anything less than £160k. I thought my offer was reasonable but the estate agents phoned back saying the vendors want a little bit more. I replied that because of the amount of repairs (just about everything needs to be modernized) I cannot afford more. He promised to speak to the vendors again and get back to me. That was on Wednesday and I am beginning to wonder if him not phoning me yet means a definite NO. Shall I wait before calling him so that I don't appear too keen or shall I ask how much "a little more" is and if it is just a thousand of pounds than offer it?

The vendor of the flat i offered on has just done the same - wants 2k more - less than 0.5%! Kind of frustrated as I am FTB, and in good position to move asap. Beginning to wonder if they actually want to sell at all. Mine is the only serious offer they've had too...
Not sure what I'm going to do, (inclined to say tough!) so can't offer much advice tho! It might be worth calling the agent, and asking when he expects to hear back - at least then you won't be fretting over the weekend.0 -

Thanks Poppy, I'm half inclined to say no, and walk away, and half inclined to say fine, but I need your furniture (they are moving O/S) as otherwise it cuts to far into my budget. Grr0

EAs play rather silly games in our experience - our EA (well-known national) wanted to wait until the following day before he rang our buyer accepting his offer. Why? We have a good relationship with our purchaser, who is a well-respected local professional, and I don't play games.0 -
If the EA hasn't got back to you then ring them though ... they might have forgotten0

Me too. Best & final offer of 97% of asking price rejected earlier this week, had to tell the agent I was walking away. Vendor wants £1k-£2k under asking (which would be an extra £3.5k) and I just can't do it.
Edited: £3.5k, not 2.50
