Plus the OP has made it clear in their first post that he has no money issues.

Vader 123 ....How very patronising and smug....

Interestingly if the OP does one of the worthless government courses (thus he will be not be being available for work) then that's fine...but he has tried to better himself by doing an electrician course..but the government say he isn't making himself available for work...

They are clearly moving the goalposts to suit themselves....if you're not available for work 'cos your doing one of their shiite courses which massage unemployment figures, then thats fine...but if your not available for work because you're doing a proper course which will lead to a job, then that's not OK....

I think 'being economical with the truth' would have been the best option here....play them at their own game..;)

I only repeated what the OP said in the first post.... which was :
So I am not worried about lack of money or anything like that at the moment

Is that smug now I have quoted the OP?

    Oh what a croc.

Being available for work is part of the JSA agreement.
Going on New Deal (or its past names, YTS etc) has always been part of long term signing on.

Its never changed, always been the same, no goal posts have moved.

What I meant was, I dont smoke, or go out drinking, or anything like that. I'm happy enough to study, read my books, look for work, and eat.

As for being availible for work, I consider myself availible! I'm willing to work weekends and nights, aswell as the weekdays which I don't have college.

But missing college, and exams (the exams coming up are ON my college days) just because the job center wants to to put on a course that wont be ANY help to me, is not what I'm happy with.

I asked my advisor if i would be learning anything on the courses which would be beneficial to my electrical career, like understanding more able cable systems, she told me clear, that it would just involve improving CVs, interview skills, and confidence boosting... :/

as LHA (HB) & CT benefits are based on income not dependant on receipt of any benefits. :j

Where people fall foul is with informing the Council of a "change in circumstance".

As soon as income changes you must inform the council especially if its benefits stopping or changing.

Go to you Local Councils website down load the forms fill them in and take them with all evidence to the Council Office.

If you're lucky they'll sort it there n then if not then it's 28 day and I'd chase after 10.

    One last thing

NEVER EVER EVER (Did I say) EVER POST ANYTHING. SERIOUSLY TAKE IT IN BY HAND & GET RECEIPT. That way it doesn't get lost and your claim held up as they keep requesting the same info over and over again :rotfl:
  • Forgot to add.

You should check with your local Welfare Rights and CAB offices about whether the advice you were given to sign off was correct.

They usually run 1st come 1st served drop in sessions just give them a call. As well as helping with the CT/HB claim they can advise you if you are entitled to any other benefits (if any) you can/should claim and what options you have.
  • I showed my bank statements to council to prove unemployment & they accepted for LHA & CTB while I was not claiming JSA.

I was similar situation. Out of work, enrolled for an elctrical course, 1 day a week. After 3 months JCP advisor decided I was not available for work as I go to college, I argued that it was part time, only 7 hours a week. But then I had been given a day course on the same day of the week I go to college. The course was very basic. After the test the teacher told me that that course was not for me. Even I was looking for & available for job, I had been sanctioned. The main thing is JCP did not like me to go to college. I know some people here will say its not a matter of like & dislike but its the rule they can use differently. Twice appelead & won. Third time gave up.

This is my 2nd year on electrical course. Now, I play by the rule (!) which I learned. The most important thing I learned in 2 years for claiming any kind of benefit you have to know the rule & play accordingly.
