    Hi

I have booked a lot of flights on line and insurance is always added further down the page and you always have to deselect it. When you go to the next page to pay, in my experience, it lists the insurance also along with any other extras you have selected - giving you another chance to spot and deselect it.

If it was not as obvious as this, ie hidden in the small print in terms and conditions, you will hopefully be able to argue your case and have it refunded. I think it is disgraceful if this is what they have done

I think it is sneaky to automatically add insurance BUT it being hidden in the small print is not going to be a legal defense, you are supposed to read every contract you make before signing (or clicking). I wish the OP all the best nonetheless.

Looks as if it is all going to change soonish anyway, thats good. Thanks dacouch
  • There was an EU ruling last year stating that insurance shouldn't be automatically added to holiday bookings. Who is the actual insurance company behind the policy? It would be worth contacting them directly and complaining in my opinion and mention that you wish to make a "expression of disatisfaction" and that unless you get a refund you will be taking the matter to the ombudsman. On the basis that the ombudsman will charge the insurer £500 to consider the complaint I am fairly confident you will get a refund of the premium in full as long as you have not travelled or made a claim on your policy. Hope this helps!!

Hi martinrothwell, that's interesting. I've not written yet (school hols) but will contact the insurance company first.

    Edit: Just written to them.
  • The moral is - stick to being a tourist and don't try to be a travel agent! You should not DIY (whether it be car servicing, carpentry or will writing) if you don't have the expertise! I am tired of seeing people make mistakes online and then going on to winge about the consequences...

Some of us also get tired of seeing people make pointless responses online to threads that are nine months old. . .
