I watched Beechgrove Garden and loved it. Gardeners World is dreadful these days so this was a welcome surprise to me.
I also watched the Edible Garden and thought it was a load of 'Gardeners World' rubbish (pls don't slate me it's just my opinon). She talked about being self sufficent and then planted a really small number of plants which implies to new gardeners that you can live on this which is not true. Also she didn't feed the soil or even mention to feed the soil...this is an important part when planting veg. She didn't say anything to do with rotating crops (ie planting in different places) so you don't get a build up of pests and i think she would totally confused anyone thinking of growing their own for the first time.
She also made it sound like it was a new thing to grow veg between plants....Geoff Hamilton did this years ago in his programe called the 'Kitchen Garden'...this program was wonderful and started me growing veg, he explained things so well.
Perhaps the program will be better next week?0 -
I'd also mentioned the start of this on the Edible Gardening thread.
For English viewers it is on Sky channel 990 BBC 2 Scotland at 7pm.
It's on a Weds night so i had a great night watching this then switched over to Edible Garden staight after.
The Beechgroves first episode was more showing the gardens & the damage from the bad winter & what they are in the process of sowing but i still found it very interesting & educational & i think i will learn a lot from it.The presenters are older than for example the Gardeners World ones which appeals to alot of viewers & it seems more traditional gardening than the hippy (Alys Fowler) kind, but you do warm to the presenters as its very natural presenting with joking etc you could imagine talking to them on an allotment.
The general view from avid watchers is that they seem to concentrate on veg more than other gardening programmes once it gets going.
I liked it, definatley worth watching in my opinion.:)0 -
Bill got the sack in some controversey many years ago. Big fuss in the garden at the time.LilacPixie wrote: »Snow was bad there last week. Beachgrove garden is so ancient. Does bill Torrence still do it?? I can remember my Grandad watching it
