Ending contract with Scottish Power - cancellation fee?

I've had the same email and am also now thinking of switching. I wouldn't have bothered but the email says "The recent ScottishPower price change (effective 31st March 2010) resulted in an overall price decrease for most Dual Fuel customers; however, changes to the gas primary kWh may mean a slight increase for very low consuming gas customers". That 'slight' increase is actually 20% - so they're asking me to tie myself to them for a year, paying more for my gas in the process. No chance.
As I'm a low rate user, I refuse to pay more - it is RIDICULOUS the lowest users pay the highest prices.I'll switch and take the money.
"It's been brilliant having you as a customer". (that's why we're increasing prices and tying you into a long term contract in the process).0 -

Leaving is something you're obviously entitled to do, but if you've had the cheapest rate for the last however many years/months, then it's only fair that the price reflects todays rates. As the average consumption is 20,500kWh that is how almost all suppliers work out their rates. I believe OVO is particularly good for low consumption?Might be worth popping your consumption into a switching web site and see what comes up

There was a link in the email about this where you could Opt Out. So I clicked it, confirmed to Opt out and got a confirmation mail stating I had opted out. But my online account still shows I'm on the capped tariff ... so I assume I have to opt out AND manually move to the standard tariff. Or will they move me to standard at the end of the stated period (14th May)?
There was no link in my email to opt-out, only a link to 'sign up today' to the new offer.
It does say 'if you choose not to sign up to Discounted Energy April 2011, you'll continue to pay our standard monthly Direct Debit prices which you were moved to at the end of your previous offer' so I guess this means I don't need to do anything and can just switch supplier? The main thing is I don't want to have to pay a cancellation fee so I think this is what I need to do..
Thanks everyone for your help!0 -

Opposite way around - you'll have to opt out if you don't want to go onto the new tariff/want to go onto a different tariff/want to go to another company.0 -
Hi I am just in the process of switching to eon for a £97 a year saving, have been with sp for about 9 years. Last august our capped price scheme ended and as we hadn't saved much we decided to not bother again, however now it apperas that sp have an opt OUT of the new rather than opt IN system and we had a high pressure sales phone call giving us spiel about waving the cancellation fee if we stayed with them. We will take it further with them, but I told the guy if that was their attitude to not send paper confirmation of new schemes we joined (being as it was a new contract) and their meaness towards our leaving we would never consider them again and overall even taking into account their 'fee' we will still be £45 better off by December. I thought they were a decent company, but it appears not.0

Well I gave them a call the other day and they said I was now on the standard tariff. So I would have had to opt-in to the new tariff as the email said (which I didn't).
They also said there was no cancellation fee if I leave...so now just looking for the best provider.0
