After youve updated malwarebytes, run a full scan and posted the log ~

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/2894/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

Thanks for this. Before I saw your post I had already followed the advice of others and dumped AVG, scanned with Avast and then did a full scan with Malwarebytes and it all seems to be clear now. I assume what you suggest won't have any effect now, but please let me know if I should still do it. I have also now changed back to Firefox having realised it was me at fault and not the browser!
The only horses I hope to see now will be running in the Grand National...any tips on this?!

a BIG THANKS again to everyone who offered advice :)

Yes of course add together the day of your birth , add 18 (mine) , add Alienriks birthday 6/6/6 (co-incidentally 18) add the digits of the day of the race 10+4+2010 and the day of the election 6+5+2010 add the first number you you think of between and 15.5 and 16.5, finally subtract 38 . Now remember to shout this number when you stick a pin in the runners list in the paper.

I can guarantee that you have as much chance on my selection which of course is *******************

Entirely upto you, but MANY computers can still be infected even without the user being aware of it
