Bought car in December 09 - haven't received the log book!

I bought a car second hand back in December 09 and now it's due to be taxed at the end of this month I have released that I never received the log book!
I have the new keeper supplement so if I fill in the form to apply for a log book will the DVLA accept it? Or seeing as it is 5 months on will I have to pay £25 for a new one?
Thanks,
Debra

got this from the form (v62) you need to get a new v5.You do not have to pay a fee in the following circumstances. You can get more information on salvage categories from the insurance company.
• If you are the new keeper and the previous keeper failed to tell us
about the change, you must have the New keeper’s details section
(V5C/2) from the V5C and send it to us with this application form.
• If the vehicle has been categorised as C salvage (repairs would cost
more than the vehicle was worth) by the insurance company and
they have destroyed the V5C. We will carry out checks to make sure
this is the case.
You have to pay for the following categories:
A = scrap only, B = break for spare parts only, and D = repairable.
here's the link to the DVLA website http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/forms/onlineforms.aspx

I think you can claim that 4 months is a reasonable time to start chasing the log book, DVLA may disagree but i would persevere with them.
Depending on your honesty you may have a problem taxing the car as it states on the new keeper supplement you can only use it up to 2 months from purchase at a Post Office or DVLA Office0 -
got mine in less than 2 weeks so definitely chase them0
