Camera Advice Please :-)

Hi all,

Can I ask some advice about cameras? I am looking for a digital camera and want to spend about £80. I have looked at a few with high mega pixles but they feel very plasticy if you know what I mean. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try this one from Nikon... £80.55 in black or another fiver if you want go faster red! gets overall very good reviews. Ive been using Nikon for 10 years they are a very trusted photography brand so maybe seems a no brainer really.....

im a new user so MSE wont let me post links but just go to Amazon and search Nikon Coolpix L20

    Terry :D

PS.... LARGE amounts of mega pixels only truly matters if you wish to blow up your pics to a large size anyway! so MEGA pixels doesnt allways mean MEGA pictures you really need to look for more features other than pixels..

Don't be fooled by high megapixels.

The manufacturers increase megapixels, but cram them into the same sized sensor, which means that the actual image is not much better - the extra detail is mostly noise.

Also, at the budget end of the market, the lenses will be not so good to make the most of high megapixels, so again not much use

10 or even 7 megapixels from the main brands will be more than enough

I'd suggest that you look for a discounted "old" mid-range model from last year, rather than a one of the latest budget models. You will get much better value.

Watch out for the Lumix FS7 on Play.com or Amazon - it has been discounted recently for a day here and there for ony £80 (play) or £99 (Amazon) and it is a cracking camera which was £180 last year.

In fact, just checking ....... Play still have the Pink colour one for £79.95 delivered - which it seems would suit you perfectly.

Get it quick before the price goes up or out of stock

    Way more than enough.

If you want a quality camera look at the Canon outlet on EBay at their refurbished ones.

Don't buy Hitachi. These are cheap rebadged cameras. Hitachi don't make cameras but sell the name for the rebadge market.

The Nikon L22 is a good choice it your happy with letting the camera set most parameters. I'd go for the Panasonic FS7 as mentioned or you can get a Canon A480 from Argos.

I am now thw prous owner of the Nikon L20, I bought it from Argos simply for the fact I could have it straight away and paid £84.99, I am very pleased with it so far. Thanks for the advice r.e megapixles, I am a complete technophobe and had no idea really.
