Graduation photos

Any MoneySaving tips on graduation photos and merchandise? The photography company tries to market expensive bundles. Sometimes it’s cheaper to buy individually. How easy is it to make good quality copies elsewhere? If buying a photo, the company offers a floppy disk image for an additional £5 – is this the best way to make your own copies?
For handshake pictures there seems to be two suppliers. The photography company takes a still, and the DVD company offers an extraction from the video. Which is better? The latter is a little cheaper, but smaller size. How easy is it to extract the picture yourself on a computer?
Are prices very much inflated compared to regular photographers (making it cheaper to take the gown elsewhere)? Is it worth buying frames from the company? What others types of merchandise are worth having e.g. T shirts with class names? Some things, like engraved pens or jigsaws, seem like a waste of money. Very occasionally ordering in advance gives a slight discount, but is it normally better to go to the sales desk on the day?

take your grandma, and give her a camera.
alternatively, don't bother going, and just fake it all somewhere else in your own time (as I did). Most photographers will do you a generic looking graduation photo, and if you need to hire a gown, they'll always be cheaper the rest of the year than at graduation time.0
