Kaspersky OR Microsoft Security Essentials?

I have used Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 & 2010.....I recently reinstalled XP on my PC so need to install A Virus software again.....I can have Kaspersky for free as I am a Barclays online customer but I'm wondering if I should do this or go for Microsoft Security Essentials combined with free Comodo Firewall.

What I liked about Kaspersky is the fact that it was an all in one program and provided "real time" protection but it did confuse me a bit though, for example when it detected a virus I didn't know how to "manually" Delete it the way you do with Malwarebytes for example by going to "Qurantine" and selecting "Delete".........any suggestion on which one I should go for?

Thank you.

Jay

    Thank you for your input.

I ended up installing Kaspersky I Security 2010 again. I've got a question about this which I am hoping Kaspersky users will be able to answer. When Kaspersky detects a threat through its "real time" protection feature or when you are doing a system scan yourself, is it only designed to take action automatically without you being able to take the "deciding" action?

What I mean by that is when it comes to a software like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, I find it simple and user friendly because once it detects infections it quarantines it and then you can go to the "quarantine" section and choose to completely delete the objects if you want to........so you have got control and the final say and it is simple..........can you do this with Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 in the same simple manner?

    Thanks.

So was I, until the last few months, when their AVP.EXE seems to be taking almost 100% of the CPU at startup time, delaying all other programs from starting to an extremely noticeable extent. It also seems to be taking more resource than usual when disk-intensive programs like backup and MBAM, etc, are running. Seems to be a common problem, if you Google for it, almost back to the old days of Norton hogging the machine...

MSE works just fine, it is not heavy on resources.

Why is MSE rubbish ?, please tell everyone here why it's rubbish !

    Objective vs Subjective

Norton is fine in my humble opinion, but it costs cash.

If digp you have a virus/trojan using MSE let us know how and then prove it was MSE's fault, or failing that then show us performance graphs that prove the other criteria that prove the rubbish claim. If richie you can prove you have not had one because of MSE then it is unlikely that he can prove it is because of MSE. (Hi Richie )

It's not rubbish, but there are better free AV's out there. Go to http://www.av-comparatives.org/home and check both sets of test results, then make your mind up based on facts, not opinions.

Read the notes, not just the result tables: they're important.
    Some things to think about...
    1. Some 'free' AV's want money for the version that does Proactive checking, some don't have it at all.
    2. Free AV's may detect problems well but not be able to fix them.
    3. Lots of 'false positives' is a bad thing, and potentially harmful.
    4. If your AV is not on the list then ask yourself why it wasn't submitted for testing.

    HiYa debitcardmayhem

    "" Objective vs Subjective ""

agreed, my point, the one I was worming ' digp ' with were :

    - everyone has an opinion, it's personal, subjective, emotional, and very very important. The fact that ' digp 'uses and prefers Avira is fine it's his preference.

    - but where ' digp ' is rubbishing the equally valuable opinion of ' Inactive ' , without any objective evidence, that in my opinion is wrong !
