Want a new bed - what to buy?

Tim,
I am another one of those people that have gotten cheated by Dreams. I ordered the Mozart superking divan set in a comfort level 4, but it turned out to be as hard as a rock. The bed is by Hypnos. They sent out a guy from the company Fira, and the guy said that there is reason to doubt that the bed was labeled properly. Dreams says their report says no fault found (but I can't see their report, which is a different one that our report.) I would like to just have my money back, but they are going to make that extremely difficult, so I will try to get recourse with their Dreams Comfort Guarantee. The only mattresses we can choose are made by Parker or Pocket Spring. I can't find any info on the net about these companies. Do you have any info on them? I could choose a different Hypnos, but why would I do that when they messed the first one up so badly. It is a beautiful looking bed, but I haven't slept well in a month since we got it! Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi.
FIRA are the Furniture Industry Research Association, and they are the furniture industry ombudsman. So it would be worth contacting them, especially as they said that you may have been miss sold the mattress.
Their address is:
FIRA International Ltd, Maxwell Road, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, SG1 2EW

Hi, and thanks Tim. I did call Fira, but they said that they cannot discuss the report they sent to Dreams as it is confidential. Dreams has a copy of our report though. We went into the store yesterday, and the sales rep and manager that sold us the bed were working. They were extremely sympathetic and helpful. They read my report and thought it strange that Customer Service is not admitting there is a fault. Anyway, they have volunteered to help us. It is like a completely different mindset between Customer service and the sales reps. I assume they are unaware of Customer Services tactics. I understand that using the guarantee does not affect our statutory rights, so we are going to exchange for another mattress under the guarantee. I found by doing an exhastive search that Parker beds are actually manufactured by Harrison, which you had said on a different post is a good company. Pocket Spring is actually Silentnight, so I'll avoid that one. I was thinking that maybe having beds made by hand is not such a good thing if they can't give some sort of consistency.
Tim, common sense tells me that the longer you use a mattress the more compressed the fibres will get and the firmer the mattress will feel. Why does customer service keep insisting that the bed will keep getting softer over a year. Am I wrong, or are they just trying to snow me until the 40 day comfort guarantee passes?0 -

It doesn't matter that the report was confidential. Fira are the furniture industry ombudsman, so they should help.
I know Parker are made by Harrison, but they could still be the budget end of Harrison. However they will probably still be better than any member of the Silentnight group. When you said "pocket spring" I didn't realise you meant The Pocket Spring Bed Company. I've been saying for ages on MSE that they are part of the Silentnight group.
A mattress will get softer with use, but only for the first few weeks as it wears in.0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
