Network key

I'm currently running O2 wireless broadband and am thinking of adding another laptop or netbook onto this O2 connection.
How simple is this to do ? Would a new laptop/netbook simply find the existing O2 wireless signal and connect automatically, would I need to connect the new laptop/netbook up by ethernet cable or would it be more complicated than that ?
A friend has informed me that I need the network key for the existing connection but I can't find the network key - an 8 digit alpha/numeric for the existing connection to do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Its easy to connect a new laptop/netbook to wireless, the netbook should in theory find the 02 wireless signal and then you click on say connect and you will be asked for the network key, if you havent changed it in anyway then it should be set to the default 1 which could be on the bottom of the router, i dont use o2 but i will try adn help best i can unless of course someone else who is on o2 can help you more

also what OS are you using, and what is the 02 wireless router

OS is Windows XP and the router is O2 wireless box 2 (supplied with the O2 starter kit). Can't see an 8 digit number on the router

Click on your wireless network icon (screen bottom right), click on "view wireless networks."

Your wireless network will be listed and it will say "connected." Now - does it say "security enabled wireless network" or "unsecured wireless network" for your network?.

If it's unsecured, your new laptop will connect straightaway. If it's secured, you are going to need the encryption key, or it's no go I'm afraid.

If you log onto your router you should be able to find the network passcode, under wireless settings

Run WirelessKeyView from Nir Soft - but you will have to find a good way (put it into a file on a USB Flash Drive?!) of transferring the 64 hex digits to the new laptop/netbook...
