Finding a good decent and cheap tradesman!

As the tilte suggests I need to find a good decent tradesman for jobs around the house! I quite like the idea of someone bidding for the work and then me being able to leave feedback - that way I get the price and the tradesman will be keen to please so will make sure he does a good job.

Im know there is myhammer, ratestradesmen, what other sites could I use? I am in London if thats makes a difference. Also a site that enable me to post a job and have the end time a few days max is needed, feedback is also a must. Has anyone used these kind of sites before and can anyone make a recommendation?

I also have a friend that also wants to use a service like this, he wants to offer a UK service for a niche market and wanted to know how all this works and how effective it is.

ANy feedback will be greatly appreciated, particularly on someone who has used a certain site!

Thanks in advance!

Good tradesman and cheap labour dont come along together often

As a tradesman myself, I do not like bidding sites. These are often unqualified, uninsured handyman, Selling themsleves as trusted qualified tradesmen.

Ask you friends, Family and neighbours for reccomendations

if a tradesman is good he won't need to go on bidding sites and put in a cheap price just to get the work

You get what you pay for - to a certain extent

Everyone has to make a living , but if you require costs to be cut then something has to give

I don't use Wylex, Volex or Crabtree as I find the quality poor. They have just issued a product recall for 6A, 10A and 16A mcb's sold for most of thepast year.

You get what you pay for
    baldly going on...

Trouble is that most people have been bitten by paying top money for poor quality work too, particularly in not to distant past.

Get a recommendation if you can and go with that. Much cheaper to maybe pay a little more than pay for the job to be done twice....

these sites are only free to the buyer, the 'tradesman' pay for the leads, one way or another. I tried those mentioned and had NO return, few jobs have enough description and we even had to pay just to ask a question. Total waste of time and effort. I guessed many jobs shown did not even exist.
