Hotpoint oven grill problem

Hi

I have a hotpoint EW31 oven and when i switch the grill to 1 it comes on really hot like its on 6.

What could the problem be?

It's not the element then. Might be the thermostat or the controller.
So, is it really hot like it's on 6 ? What happens when you turn it to 6, does it get hotter ? A short or something stuck on high maybe?

ive been told elsewhere that its a faulty Oven Grill Regulator but i havent got a clue where is it inside the unit or how to fit one

Hi Rudd,

Yes it sounds like a classic grill regulator fault.

Basically it is an energy regulator, a bit like a rheostat or dimmer that sits (usually) behind the control knob and is attached to the panel that sits behind the facia. Excuse the link to the store but, it's this sort of thing.

When they go faulty you usually get all or nothing from them, as you have.

There are ones that are very common and fairly universal but, for some, you do need to get the correct one.
