Hi,
Am looking to downsize my car.
The car I currently own is a Rover 200 vi, 1.8, which is worth c.£1000.
The car value itself is not bad, but unfortunately I had someone run in to the back of me last year. They gave false details to the Police and as a result my insurance rose from £400 to £700. Anyone else been a victim of this?
Anyhow, even if that hadn't happened, I would still need a decent car, c.£1,000, low fuel, low tax, low insurance with PAS and reliable.
Any recommendations? Or tips to avoid?
Thanks in advance
Mike

Thats not good.
have yopu looked arround for different insurence? Martin has a section for it and it worked for me! saved me £100.00:rotfl:
For small cars it's difficult theres hundreds of them look at ebay and Autotrader they will be your best places to find the type of car you want, then look in your local paper there might be some in there.....
Good Luck0 -
Just bought the wife a V reg (1999) Corsa 1.0 GLS with 56000 on the clock for £1400 (cash).
Now I've got full no claims for our main car (2.0L Focus Ghia), and the insurance for that is £278 per year.
Only got 1 years no claims for the 2nd car, and that is £177 per year. So I presume that if I only had the Corsa, with full no claims, the insurance would be minimal.
Have a look at autotrader, there are lots of Corsa, Fiesta, Polo's for about £1000, and the insurance shouldn't be too bad either.
Hope this helps.Wha's like us - damn few, an' they're a' deid

No-one's mentioned a diesel yet! I've gotta tell you about a V-reg (yep - 1999) Fiat Marea Estate that I bought 2 years ago for £1400. It's probably worth at least 500 quid now... but it's the 1.9 Turbo Diesel and I tell you what - try as I might, I simply refuses to cause any trouble. 600 miles on a tank, servicing when I remember. Fiats are seriously underrated - those who buy them new may be foolish, but those who pick them up when they're 5 years old for a tenth of the price aren't!

if you want a cheap to run car i'd go for a peugeot 106 diesel, they are small but very good on fuel! about 60mpg so ive been told! i'm thinking of getting one if the cost of petrol / diesel goes up much more.... which i think it might:eek: peugeots are galvanised as well so no rust to worry about unlike fords:rolleyes:0

...and the cheapest place to buy LPG is from countrywide farmers, i used to have an account with them when i ran a landrover on lpg0 -
I’m not sure if your budget will stretch this far but I would highly recommend one of these.

I don't know that much about cars I'm afraid but I've got a corsa as well and they are quite cheap to run! (and fun to drive, quite nippy about town)Just trying to be me.....0

I bought a W(2000) reg Fiesta 1.8 Turbo diesel last year for £900 - the best car I have driven - vote FORD FIESTA! Incredibly cheap on fuel and to insure - the only downside is the higher road tax bracket.0

What about a Peugeot 306 1.9 td? Theses are only insurance group 5 and economical to run.0
