This is the problem with what is essentially a government appointed statutory monopoly - they can argue until they're sick, but that's what it is.

Apparently they're moving a lot more call centres back over to the UK - I have no problem with foreign workers, of course not, but when you're trying to explain a technical issue and they are reading from a script of prepared answers, it's very very frustrating. Though I guess BT know that for every person like me who relentlessly chases them down, there will be several people who just write-off the costs, so BT make more money anyway.

I never do the call-back thing - it's a total lie. There's a contradiction in the message anyway! It says "you're in a queue, average wait time is 5-10 minutes - we will call you back when you're at the front of the queue. Press 1 to be called back within one hour" - erm, excuse me? How does that work then?

As I've got an active BT line now, I'll be on hold for as long as it needs - in total last night I was on the phone to BT for 80 minutes straight without a break, after a 30min call to O2. It was ok, I watched Grand Designs during all that.

After much polite insistence I ended up speaking to BT's Newport centre -opened up with some praising of the Welsh as I went to uni there and quite like them, so that helped. I'll update you later in the week!

Despite the initial responses I got (if you can call them that) I strongly advise that if you have a good case, DO NOT BACK DOWN!

    Matt
