cancelling online memberships

Hi I signed up for Tesco Diets the other day at a cost of £29.90. The main reason I signed up is because they give you a shopping list for the items you need for that week so its easy to follow.
I shop on a budget and the site said that the diet plans offer the ability to have budget meals.
When I logged into the site and spent a good 4 hours figuring it all out and changing things round, I found that even on the bidget setting the cost of buying food to stick to the plan is twice the normal ammount I spend in a week. I can't afford it!
I went to cancel my membership and all it would let me do was cancel the recurring membership.
So I emailed them and asked for my membership to be cancelled and for a refund to be issued for the days I had not used. Tesco Diets emailed me saying that i'm not entitled to a refund.
Is there not something in consumer rights that allows you to cancel a membership if done within a certain period and if the service isn't what has been stated?
I'm pee'd off if I lose £30 to them!
Anyone help?

What part of the service is not what was stated?0 -
that the food on the diet plans are available on a budget... who's budget?!
i can't afford them!0 -
if they offer a budget range then that is supplying what was stated, perhaps your expectations and budget are unrealistic?
You can't be that hard up if you can shell out £30 for the diet in the first place.
People should read the terms and conditions before signing up to things!!!0 -
the £30 is for 8 weeks at a cost of £3.75 per week so not actually that bad if you are able to use the service for 8 weeks!
the cost of food on the budget option is twice what i normally spend on food for a week! my budget isn't unrealistic my normal shopping consists of branded items and stores own brand... no really cheap stuff (ie smart price/no frills).
i'm asking for help not someone who says i should have read the terms and conditions!
i didn't read the t's & c's because i didn't think much could go wrong with tis type of service!0 -

then what's so expensive? can you give examples?
when shopping at tesco online they always give you cheaper alternatives for branded items, can't you use that to get the cheapest shop you can?
What were you buying before that now you would need to spend twice as much? I don't get how it can be that much of a difference.
most sensible people would read the t&c's, you could have tied yourself into a lot longer stint on it without even knowing... :T0 -
Oh, and no you won't get a refund as you could have downloaded all the info on the diet to keep so that you don't need the service anymore...0

I'm sorry, but I don't think you are entitled to a refund. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Distance Selling Regs should apply. OP, did you attempt to cancel within 7 days?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I don't think the DSR applies to this kind of online membership as you have instant access to the service...0

DSR definitely does not apply in this case. There is a specific exclusion for services which can be accessed immediately after paying any fee or subscription.0
