new electricity customer

hi there,
can anyone tel me how to find the cheapest electricity provider. I have not had an account before, so the switching companys cant do a comparison. this is all confusing, because i dont want to get ripped off.

    Hi Tonk...the old established companies tend to be the dearest, tho you would think they were also the most reliable, not true.
    Competition is what it's all about, a new entry being EBICO.
    You have to match price with reliability. As I have never been cut off from the gas and only with electricity for the mandatory two hours (for freezer insurance purposes), guess it's down to price and hassle.
    If a new house , take your pick, otherwise , keep the existing provider until you have more time to evaluate your neighbour's opinion.

    I'm sorry ; I shoud have said that iit will give you some idea of potential energy use. Without that idea finfing the cheapest co is hit and miss IMHO.

    Get a few quotes from energyhelpline.com by inputting different kwh's per year. I think just over 3000 kwh's is supposed to be average usage for a single rate supply.

    Use 2500, 3000 & 3500 and see who comes out cheapest for each amount; this should give you some idea of the cheapest provider for your area.

    Start to record your monthly electricity usage and you can soon start to get more accurate quotes.
