scot power to scot gas ---switch probs

Options
Hi, im trying to switch to scot gas and here is my problem

i have two electric metres. Only one gets used which is fine but i want to switch to scot gas and cant get the best plan possible as i have to swith both metres (so they say).

I have been on the phone to scot power and im still waiting for them to get back to me as i want this metre (that is sitting doing nothing) taken away so i can switch and get the best deal.

surely if scot power dont do this its against my rights as i should have the freedom to switch provider.................

any hints tips would be great please.:j

OK silly question but why do you have 2 meters?I have no idea what you can do in this situation.

Legally, they have to take over both meters. If they only take one meter, then your supply would have to be returned to the original supplier (Scottish Power). You should be able to get the meter removed. It's better to get it removed before moving to another company, otherwise you may have to consider what is called a 'Best Fit' tariff (which is where you have a tariff that is customised because they can't handle your meters on their billing system) - this isn't always the cheapest.

Many people have 2 meters for electricity - could be that it was two properties converted into one, either two flats or two semi's. Also, many people on here have commented on how they are with Scottish Power with two meters... seems like a type of heating system with the two meters was used in the past? I'm no expert on this so I'll leave it to other people to explain :)

    Hi tonygibralter

Let me try and help you with this one. Its possible that the property was previously electric only and that one of the meters was used to record all the heating within the property. If gas central heating has been installed this heating meter will no longer be required.

If you have two separate electricity meters then it is likely that you will have two separate electricity supply numbers (Meter Point Administration Number - MPAN) for your property (one for each meter). If you no longer use one of the meters and will never be using it again, you may want to de-energise the supply number relating to that meter and also arrange for the permanent removal of the meter.

The alternative to this is to keep both meters in the property and when you are making your application to transfer to another supplier, provide all details to the new supplier including both meter details and supply numbers.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if you want me to investigate this for you.

    Kind Regards
