extend your 0% with existing c.card.company

sick of shuffleing debts and applying for new cards? my 9 month 0% period was running out with my virgin credit card so i asked them if they could agree to a low- life of balance- rate to keep my business-they said they could not and the balance would revert to 15.9 next month.
they did however offer that if i could clear the balance in full that they will pay it all back in to my own bank account in a week and put the balance back on to my card at 0% for a further 6months.

they will charge a capped one off fee of £50 for doing this(less for a lower balance). the advisor told me they are the only (or one of) companies who will pay in to bank accounts. this was worthwhile for me as i would have been paying around £53 per month in interest alone on the debt. i aim to clear the debt in 6months or greatly reduce it and maybe do this method one more time.

it is worth asking your credit card company, this was with VIRGIN=MBNA bank
ask to speak to 'customer loyalty'.

Mbna retentions are on 08007831116. They nearly allways offer you another six months at 0% or thereabouts after you have settled the account.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Anyone know if any of the 0% NO FEE companies will extend (ie without charging a fee) once the promotional period comes to an end???

    Suppose that would be asking a bit much, wouldn't it. . . . .

We had a Halifax credit card with about £2000 on it We told them we were looking for a 0% transfer but were quite happy to stay with them if they could offer us the same. Absolutely no way would they budge and we spoke to several people. In the end we did balance transfer to another card as the Halifax refused to budge. I personally felt they were totally unreasonable as we had our card for 13 years. So much for customer loyalty!!! It doesn't exist any more.

Halifax are more 'stick in the mud' than others - they have their rules (which seem more restrictive too) and they stick by them. Might I suggest your asking them about a 'replacement' card for the 'One' account instead (you can only ask?) They do quite a range:

I like the look of the 'Balance Transfer Card': 5.9% on BTs and 0% on purchases for the first six months and also the 'Flat Rate Card': 5.9% on BTs and purchases. The former looks better to me - because of the 0% on purchases it offers but the BT rate is good (but it is not a fixed rate - watch out for that going up again soon!) and (take note!) there is no fee on BTs to either card at the moment
