Framesavers - no need to buy new spectacle frames

:)Hello!

My mum has just used Framesavers to get her spectacle frames recycled and re-lensed for just £30! I'm going to try them too as I love my designer frames and don't want to buy expensive new ones if I don't have too!

The owner is called Kathryn and is very friendly - I think her and my Mum have become good friends ;)

    Hi,

any optician will let you use the same frames, you don't need to get new frames just because you need new glazing.

I once needed new prescription glasses, so just got them to use my old frames, bought a pair from £ shop, did me until new ones came back in less than a week.

So don't be talked into new frames.

    Hi,

any optician will let you use the same frames,

But they'll do their damnedest to convince you that they can't!

Help! No more posts like this - will have to hide it from DH.

If you wear glasses all the time, you want new frames regularly. You wouldn't wear the same dress all the time. ;)

Eeek I hope I haven't started anything here! I know my optician won't recycle my frames (but they are a large national chain!). :)

Try finding a friendly local independent Opticians - they don't tend to have orders from head office to push new frames.

Personally, I think if a patient has a good quality frame in good condition that they are happy with, it seems a shame not to use it again (assuming they have a back-up pair if they are dependent on them of course).
Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Having found the ideal frame to suit face shape and colour, it would be a mistake to change it just for the sake of fashion. For proof of this just look at how many people are going around just now with pillar box lenses and thick frame arms. They suit very few face shapes. There is a huge difference between style and fashion.

Spex4less are usuually very highly rated on the Monesavingexpert forums and they reframe single vision lenses for less than £30. They also do extra thin, bifocal and variofocal

Not just that, but if you wear glasses daily, the frames wear out! At least I find that with DH: his prescription doesn't change enough to make a new pair necessary every year, but after a couple of years they're always looking slightly wonky ...

    Or is that just him?

it's not the wonky glasses, it's because his ears aren't level, :rotfl:

The website is framesavers.com - my Mum found out about them in Saga magazine - again single vision lenses for less than £30 plus free P&P (and a 28 day guarantee). I will give them a go!
  • Hi,

    you advertising this shop?

Your mum likes it, you will give them a go, are you all related, to Kathryn,
as I said in post 2, any optician will reframe glasses.
