I have Philips DVP3260 USB DVD Player which was working fine [was playing .avi video files so far]
Recently I had few video files which I am unable to view........
Properties of the file says ''VLC media file (.avi) (.avi)''
Is this file extension (.avi) (.avi) different from .avi??
Please help.

The file extension avi is a generic term used for video files. What is important is what codec was used to create the file. VLC will play virtually all video files whereas your Philips box will only decode certain types of video file. Give it the right type of file and it will play it. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Can anyone help me to sort this out???0 -
It's probably nothing to do with the .avi extension. It's probably due to the fact that you don't have the right codec installed to play the content.
You don't say what OS you have. Some (e.g. Debian based linux distributions) will tell you what codec has been used by right-clicking the file and looking at its Properties.
You should then be able to check whether the DVD player is supposed to support that codec. If not, it's possible that there may be a firmware update that could help - you will need to go to the Philips support website for that.0 -

You could use a program called Gspot here which will give full details of video files.
The spec. of your Philips box will tell you what types of file it can handle. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
